Have done it. Though slightly different. An SQL wizard will probably
disapprove ... 

Built SQL defined views using SQLTABLE and GET_XML_FILE functions over
the XML file in the IFS. The views then used in RPG/SQL/etc. It worked
fine as long as the XML structure wasn't too "deep" or it would require
making a bunch of views.
