Just wondering was there ever was a DB1 or DB, and isnt DB just short for Database.
As I recall the S38 AS400  Sysi never had a name for the file database, they were completely integrated systems and one never even thought of ISAM VTAM etc.
The beauty of having just one addressable data space even made disk drives something one never considered.
Then along came the IFS, a backward step imo, but necessary to remain in touch with other systems.
To me the hardware, database, and even software were all just one thing called S38 AS400 or  Sys i5
IMO a lot of IBMers , those from the Big Iron side . never truly understood this. so I guess that is the reason for all the name changes.

apologies David  .  should be on midrange list.

The current proper name for IBM i database is "Db2 for IBM i", or
shortened, simply Db2.
