Is it really necessary to delete it first?
Have you tried to create a Global Tempoarary Table (DECLARE GLOBAL
TEMPORARY TABLE ... WITH REPLACE).

WITH REPLACE:
Specifies that, in the case that a declared temporary table already exists with
the specified name, the existing table is replaced with the temporary table
defined by this statement (and all rows of the existing table are deleted).
