...I'm not sure I was arguing any of the absolutes you list, but you make some valid points. I most certainly wasn't arguing SQL is general purpose language, but for things like parsing XML/JSON into a file it's a no brainer.

I would add that using third-party bolt-ons or convoluted work arounds in QSHELL/Python etc. because you don't want to learn how to use the tools provided by the platform is also silly 😉

IBM i is a "database in a box".
Not learning SQL is silly.
IBM i is progressing rapidly into the early 21st century in part due to the
availability of Python, which makes many mission critical tasks esp. w/r/t
TCP/IP and HTTP, immensely simpler than before.
Not learning Python is silly.
Insisting SQL is a fluent general purpose language is silly, it's not,
Python is that and SQL is clumsy used that way.
Arguing about "Which of the mission critical languages is better" is silly.
SQL is indispensable. Python has earned that niche as well.
If the platform is to continue into the 2030's our community should be ...
