Sometimes you need to do crazy things and think out of the box to accomplish great things (or fail ;-)

Anyway the INZPFM *DLT and RECNO() has been advised already and is maybe part of the solution.

But RPG could do such nonsens. Just define the file with recno(rrn),
appending records could be done with INZPFM records(*DLT) totrcds(10) in
your case.
