Shiplify.com is not a free service (sorry). It provides indications for
residential addresses *and* limited access addresses (this is very useful
if you deploy equipment of varying sizes). If you charge (accessorials,
specifically) for such situations, this product will be a home run: the
cost justification is drop-dead obvious.

There are web service and batch (SFTP) interfaces available. Batch
turnaround time is usually just a few minutes.

My use: as I enter (manually, via EDI, via web) bills of lading, I rate
(mostly class rates), apply a discount, and price accessorials
automatically. My Shiplify batch interface updates every 30 minutes and
adds accessorials based on what Shiplify returns. If a B/L was
automatically rated and requires a special handling accessorial, I add the
accessorial keyword and submit the bill to automatic rating again. If the
bill's been rated manually or audited, I just put it into my Shiplify queue
and the rate clerks handle those bills promptly so the city delivery
planners know which bills are residential and which can't accept long
trailers.

Residential Delivery Indicatory... RDI (not to be confused with RDi)...

Other than the UPS Street Level Address Validation API, does anyone know
of a web service that would return "residential" versus "commercial" for
small carrier shipping addresses? (preferably free, or at least low cost).

TIA,
Greg
