I get a lot from what they say - maybe I've seen discussions about it.

At least one aspect of this is, it is a DRDA driver - so far as I know, you set up the kind of connection you want in some table (I assume), then DB-Gate uses that setup (for non-IBM, a JDBC provider connection) to let you use STRSQL in an easy way to work with the remote database. This also allows embedded SQL to work with remote databases. I got that from the "Key Features" info - "...programs in languages such as RPG, Cobol, etc. (compiled using CRTSQLxxx)..."

Seems clear enough. I know I've thought about writing a DRDA driver using JDBC - not the easiest task, and not enough time.

It also appears that, even though it can run in the i - it is Java-based - it can also run on a PC - I took a look at the presentation link - and on that PC you can use a JDBC-ODBC bridge for things like MS Access that don't have a JDBC, at least from MS.

I believe that Dieter Bender's ArdGate is similar.

Vern

Thanks for the hint! Unfortunately, their self-congratulatory website content is missing some… depth. Maybe you can shed some light?

Where is it installed? IBM i? Somewhere else?

They're mentioning JDBC multiple times (even when I guess they're referring to ODBC). Is this thing Java-based?

Thanks!
