I guess we agree to disagree.

Where I find this method most helpful is that because of our multiple
clients we have to build huge dynamic SQL statements. To me it is an
absolute nightmare to try to build up a huge SQL statement with all kinds
of quotes and plus.

So much easier to just build a single string with markers for quotes and
plus or other special characters. Part of the problem for me is that other
programmers can create some monster sQL statement and keep track of
everything in their head.

I could never do that so starting 40 years ago I started writing extremely
structured programs. Code that was easy to understand. Functions that did
one thing, etc. Anyway it works for me.

What do you find hard to read in plain command string define like this?

DCL-C RMTSQL 'CALL &s/QSYS2/QCMDEXC(''&c'',&l)';

Don’t forget that the command &c can be replaced by a lengthy CL command
which may contains quotes

And, from the original issue: How would you calculate the length of that
string, counting only 1 byte for 4 quotes?

BTW the original issue has been solved

IMHO, this and the %SCANRPL method are both significantly harder to read
than just doubling-up the quotes in the string.
