binding source is used to list the names of each procedure that is exported
from a service program. The purpose being that you can assign a signature
to that list of exports. Then when, at a later time, you add new procedures
to the list of exports, the system can send a "signature violation"
exception message when a program, which is bound to the previous version of
the service program, tries to call a procedure in that service program.

use the DSPPGM command to see a list of service programs the program is
bound to. The binding signature is displayed in that list.
