I think that is why Dave ultimately preferred it. I don't disagree
about its obviousness.
That plus the half-rounding of %DECH. The truncating of the
string manipulation method also bothered me.
If that was an issue, I wouldn't have characterized your string
processing as "working" then.
Maybe I misunderstood what the string processing was for. Without
actually writing anything (either my own algorithm, or testing your
code) I was imagining that a solution would involve first using
arithmetic and/or BIFs to round as desired. Then, with an actual,
correctly rounded numeric value, get the string representation of
that, and then add or remove zeros in the string as needed.
