But x'A5' (as a down-pointing "caret") should be the same in all
mixed-case code pages.

But unfortunately it's not. CCSIDs using code page 290 (for instance CCSID
5026 which is supported though I hope not widely used anymore with the
introduction long, long ago of CCSID 5035) has the Katakana syllable ミ
(mi) at x'A5' with lower-case v at x'B5'. I have no reason to suspect
though that Booth is targeting a Japanese install base, so this reply is
more just a general warning that so-called invariant EBCDIC values are not
necessarily truly invariant.

Don't think so. Depending upon code page, what about x'B0' and x'A5' ?

More on the code page issue... x'B0' is the up-pointing caret
symbol in some code pages and x'5F' is the up-pointing caret symbol in
other code pages. Some may have it somewhere else. But x'A5' (as a
down-pointing "caret") should be the same in all mixed-case code pages.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
