We open up everything needed via browser thru a 5250 green screen on our PC’s and Macs. From PC documents located on both a PC server, and residing on our native IFS.

I incorporated the entire routine into a CLP API that deals with both PC’s and Macs.

Start with the STRPCO command (monitor for message IWS4010)

To accommodate both PC’s and Macs with one API, I first attempt to invoke a Windows command by building a string ‘OPEN <insert URL>’ then STRPCCMD PCCMD(&STRING) PAUSE(*NO)

I check for no errors if the above command fails. To accommodate Macs, I immediately build a new string except with “open”, I use “start <insert URL>” then STRPCCMD PCCMD(&string) pause(*no)

If one command fails, the other will run and work, but not both.

Works like a charm. Been using this method for years with zero problems. We use it to serve not only documents, but call URL’s for other services like Google Maps, etc.

Some corner of my memory tells me there is a better way...

I want to open a browser page from a 5250 session.. Until now I have used STRPCCMD PCCMD() and it has worked just fine. This browser link is fairly long and is being truncated, so the web page is opening but not at the correct page.
