Correct, with a MONMSG MSGID(CPFA0A0) there's no harm.
I keep mine in a table that is read during QSTRUP. That makes changes slightly easier, but keeping it in CLLE source gives you a history in source control.

Let me just say that putting the MD in the startup is a good idea.
If you have a network administrator like ours, or go through as many data centers moves as we have, or did upgrades where they put you on a new subnet, you don't want to have to concern yourself with whether or not you're still on the same subnet. Especially when you'll have enough other items to address during that time. You may, however, want to put a MONMSG on that in case it already knows of it.
Then there's the whole HA box scenario...
