+1 on imageMagick - we use the version Scott bundled, it still does just 
fine.

I don't think it is available yet in the open source YUM process, but I 
don't have authority to use that, so I can't say for sure

And I don't have time to work on making a current version work!!

There are likely more dependencies than the old version.  However, your use case is simple enough that the older version may work well enough to play around with it.
