And yes - I have seen that in production code.

*I* don't normally have a problem with that kind of thing. But
the "powers that be" at this shop have a major problem with it. In fact,
I am very comfortable with all kinds of complex IF statements and, again,
the "powers that be" have (severely) frowned down upon the kind of complex
IF statements I code.
