I'm with you Don. HTTPAPI is far easier to use.

Add WSDL2RPG for the those services wth a wsdl and you have an easier time of it.

Arco, thanks for the tip about the IWS AXIS functions - I was not aware
they existed.

Also I am glad they work for you. I have just scrolled through the
Programming Guide you referenced and while it was a fairly brief review
and I have not tried to use IWS AXIS, in my humble opinion HTTPAPI and
GETURI are far simpler.

This is only my opinion and as I said I have not used that option.

I just like having a single RPG service program that I use procedures from
to consume SOAP and REST web services.

Hi Doug,

We use the IBM supplied IWS AXIS functions for the majority of our REST
calls from inside RPG and are very satisfied with them. You don't need
to
set up a webservice webserver for that. AFAIK these functions are part
of
the operating system.

For extraction of the received JSON strings we use Scott's great YAJL
implementation.

I want to know if there are any examples of an RPG program contacting
an
API on another system [non-IBMi] where the RPG program would be the
'client' asking the other system [the 'target'] for information using
a
REST interface with JSON. The only information I see looks like it is
tailored to having [i.e. our] IBM i serving as the host and have other
applications contacting ours for information, and that seems to
require the
IBM WebServer wizard to set up.

Do I need to use that to have RPG be the client and contact other
companies servers for information or is there a different way when RPG
is
just the client and not the target?

Thank you,

Doug
