I am using the decrypt_char(var) and encrypt(var) functions in sql statements. However, is there a way to just return an encrypted variable without having a table?

I believe VALUES INTO is used for this purpose. I know Birgitta is
always saying you can use SQL functions in your RPG code even if
you're not really using SQL to mess with tables.

If you absolutely need a table for some bit of SQL to work, you can
always use SYSIBM/SYSDUMMY1.
