Let me offer something a little more constructive than "yuk".
Here's a recap of the methods of PDF printing I've used on IBMi, as compared to Adobe on PC.
1. Send the raw PDF to the printer. This can be done via FTP or a *USERASCII spooled file (what PRTSTMF does IIRC). Printer support is good. Printing is slow. Page scaling isn't supported.
2. PDFBox/Java. Printer support is bad. Printing is slow. Supports page scaling.
3. ghostscript. Printer support is good. Printing is OMG slow. Supports page scaling.
The Windows-only PDFs (requiring Windows fonts) and scaling requirements are specific the PDF files, and may not be an issue in your environment.

Your experience contrasts sharply from mine. Windows-only PDF's (IBMi, Android and iPhone choke), full 8.5x11 documents that must be scaled to print, printers that take 1-2 minutes per page and unsupported printers. Yuk.
