Since the location of the error doesn't appear to be in a control
boundary, I think your only options are going to the monitor/error
extender, or reconfigure your call stack so that the error occurs in a
control boundary.

My boss wants an OS retry option.

If that turns out to be a dead end, you're right. Either a MONITOR
block or
error extender would be Plan B.

Thanks

Justin,

How about encapsulating your read with a MONITOR/ON-ERROR/ENDMON
block?

We have some RPG code in a 5250 job that failed with a record lock.
The joblog shows two CPF5027 (Record &6 in use by job or transaction
&9.) messages, each answered with a "C" showing "Reply, message
default
used".
I'm not as familiar with RPG RLA as I used to be, but I would have
expected a retry option for the record lock.

The RPG code is a *MODULE. It has a USROPN F-spec that is
overridden
in a CL to a PF. The file is internally-described. When the record
lock occurs, that message is auto-answered and the calling program
receives an
RNQ0202 (The call to &1 ended in error).

Any suggestions on how to prevent the default reply so the user has
a
retry option?

TIA
