There are better ways to do overrides in RPGLE. Keyword EXTFILE lets youspecify a library / file combination that
can be a program variable. The override is completely contained in yourapplication. I know this works on 7.1 or higher.
When processing the override in your RPGLE program make sure you are using
USROPN? Otherwise the file was opened before the override was applied.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: OVRDBF does not work
I've always used OVRSCOPE(*JOB) myself.
Also, it seems to me that you can't always see overrides in other jobs.
This is because I don't think that there is a way to specify the LVL
parameter of DSPOVR when looking from the WRKJOB or DSPJOB menu.
I have some batch jobs that override the WaitRcd parameter.
I know that the override is there because if I engineer a record lock I
can see that the wait time has been reduced by my override.
But when looking at the running batch job and taking option 15 I can't see
the override.
For my own peace of mind I think I issued a DSPOVR from within the job (
in some one-off test code ) just to prove that the override was there.
regards,
Craig

I'm having a strange problem using OVRDBF.
I've had good results by using both of the following parms in
the override.
OVRSCOPE(*JOB) OPNSCOPE(*JOB)
Sincerely,
Dave Clark
