To go back to the old days when the term "big iron bigot" was used to
describe many COBOL developers, and later was applied to RPG developers
as well, I would say there are a vast larger number of "PC bigots" that
feel only the small machine matters and the larger ones have no value.
They are only Java, only VB, only PHP, and such. The number of multi-
language, primary RPG, developers is much larger than most think and I
profess that, again using your reply as the example, a good RPG
programmer will be able to pick up whatever other language fairly
easily, if they have not already done so with one or more other
languages.
Yep, I've programmed in over 22 languages but RPG-III and JAVA are
not included. ;-) Doesn't mean I couldn't pick up JAVA. It just
means no one has ever asked me to create anything for them in JAVA. ;-)
One of the more esoteric languages I've done quite a bit of programming
in is APL. ;-)
Sincerely,
Dave Clark
