Two possibilities come to mind:

1) Are there any right side indicators? If yes they would be set based on *GT, *LT or *EQ to 0.

2) If there is a possibility that there is invalid data in a numeric field, that code would trigger an error (or trap the error, as the case may be) before it goes any further into the calcs.

There are much better/clearer ways to accomplish those tasks, but that's what I can come up with.

Yes, factor 2, and the result columns are the same variable name. This
appears twice (for different fields) as part of a segment of code that seems
to do much more work than it needs to accomplish a calculation. Anyway,
having a little trouble getting my head around what the results of this
would be. It is in a much larger loop that processes different records each
iteration.
