I feel pretty embarrassed because it must be obvious that I'm not too
familiar with the existing EXPORT and IMPORT keywords.

In particular, my suggestion of /EXPORT to mark an exported interface
is pretty much already there with the current EXPORT keyword used on
procedures.

And the more I read about the existing EXPORT and IMPORT (the latter
only available for data structures and fields), the more it looks like
a lot of the groundwork for more robust and less verbose external
procedures is actually already there. Again, not saying it should be
IBM's priority to get the rest of the way there, but it feels more and
more tractable.
