It would probably be a "good idea" if the ILE RPG IV compiler could issue at least a "Warning" message when a procedure PI spec has the "export" keyword and no corresponding "PR spec" is found ...

And, perhaps some new H-spec keyword or compiler option could elevate this to an "Error" ...  and it would be "nice" if it could be placed in the RPGHSPEC data area, if a shop wanted to make that the "default" behavior, per their own "shop standards."

Just my two cents worth ...

Prototypes should only be considered optional if all the calls are in the same module as the procedure. That is, procedures that are not exported. If you have a prototype for an exported procedure, the copy file with the prototype MUST be copied into the source member that defines the procedure. Even if the compiler does not complain when the prototype is missing.
