Thanks for the replies,

I started down the 3-part route because I liked the idea that the user
credentials were stored by the ADDSVRAUT entry. But maybe that works for
connect too?

I can see how 3-part sql is really giving me a qualification which is
exactly what I don’t want in this case.

Dave Clark - confusingly the Test and Prod are both on the other LPAR so
both remote. This program is running on a different LPAR.

hoping for an easier higher level option ( like override, alias ) before

go down that route as some of the SQL is already a bit involved.

By default, your program is connected to the local database. You
can explicitly connect to the remote database and you do not lose your
local database connection. Thus, you can then switch back and forth
between the two connections as needed. Your other SQL doesn't even have
to use 3-part references as long as you don't need to access tables on
both systems at the same time. Alternately just requires switching
connections (SET CONNECTION). But, at the same time requires 3-part
references.
