When I look at the documentation, it shows both will work for *SYS but
only
shows the period for *SQL. Is the documentation wrong for *SQL?



In my "DB2 for i SQL Reference" under "What's new for IBM i 7.1" and
"What's new as of October 2012", the third bullet point states:

Allow period separator for qualification of objects in system naming.
