You could do it with SQL-CLI - when you set up a statement there, a cursor is created - this can be conditioned.

I also wondered about using a CASE -not sure if you can put it in the place you have the host variables, but maybe.

Or prepare a statement you build from the variable depending on the condition - then declare cursor using the statement.
