Thanks John. No disagreement on using constants - in production code that is how I would do it.

When doing it for an article it is a trade-off between making it obvious what is happening at a mechanical vs the logical level. I don’t always make the right choice <grin>

and I guess you can then write the compare of the Subfile Lines as

For x = 1 to SflLines
If custRec( before ).Subfile( xx ) = custRec( after).Subfile( xx ) ;
