Thanks Vern. I knew I had seen this type of combo statement before.

Unfortunately, I need variable p in a subsequent statement's %subst
function, so no sense doing two scans per iteration.

In RPG you can't nest things this way - but you might try just using the
expression, as here - unless you need p in the body of the DOW - and I like
keeping the extra layer of parentheses, to keep things organized!!
