What you want to do can be done in C, where you can do an assignment and nest it in a condition in the same statement.

In RPG you can't nest things this way - but you might try just using the expression, as here - unless you need p in the body of the DOW - and I like keeping the extra layer of parentheses, to keep things organized!!

Dow (%scan( '~' : SPdetl : PosLastDelim + 1) > 0);
