Free trial for 60 days. For people like me that is barely time enough for a fair trial, but for most people that is plenty. Give it a try, see what everyone is bragging about.

I like that I can use it while not connected to an i or to the Internet.

Um, did you notice that Vern was looking for editors to install on
several machines in a lab, to be used primarily for non-RPG projects?
He even rejected TextPad for being too expensive. One seat for RDi
(for just a single year) costs more than a whole classroom full of
TextPad seats (which might be good indefinitely).
