At V5R3 I would probably do this:
D X 2 0
D EarnTypeS 3 Dim(50)
D HoursSum 12 2 Dim(50)
D PaySum 12 2 Dim(50)
...
C EarnTypeL Lookup EarnTypeS(x) 30
and then use arrays HoursSum(x) and PaySum(x)

It requires more lines to load the array, but its probably easier in the
long run. (in my opinion.)

I also like the suggestion of looping through your data structure,
especially if for-loops were available at V5R3?

The compiler gives me an error saying EarnTypeS is not defined.

SEU gives me an error saying:
Result field entry is not valid for LOOKUP

I'm running V5R3

How can I do the Lookup?
