You can have it as a requirement Vern as long as I can vote against it.

Given the finite budget that is available for IBM i development I don't want my $s spent on adding a variant of a feature that I already have.

I suspect that had RPG, COBOL and CL had access to pointers those many moons ago outfiles might never have come into being and everything would be via APIs.
