Only thing "magical" I can recall about 132 characters is standard green
bar paper printed on 10 CPI band printers, and the upper column limit of a
5250 session (27x132).

Limitations based on physical devices almost as ancient as the 80 column
punch card that inspired this discussion.

Been around long enough to remember using card decks for my first
programming tasks. Just can't understand why I'm using them virtually
today. ;-)


Heck I started with plug boards. Some folks though are still using those toady in the form of the cycle, numbered indicators, and look-ahead fields all of which originated from those!
