Printers have a limit - but any limit is arbitrary and if IBM increased to
378 people would still bitch about having any limit.
What about this who actually print spool files?
Anyway - all I'm saying is that there is more to it than simply increasing
the line width.
Points taken, Jon.
I'm glad IBM (or is it Rational?) has improved the RPG compiler, and hope
they continue to do so.
Time to see if there is a requirement to allow for the expanding source
code input length for the RPG compiler.
PS: you raised the 132 character limit for text wrap around of compiler
output.
Only thing "magical" I can recall about 132 characters is standard green
bar paper printed on 10 CPI band printers, and the upper column limit of a
5250 session (27x132).
Limitations based on physical devices almost as ancient as the 80 column
punch card that inspired this discussion.
Been around long enough to remember using card decks for my first
programming tasks. Just can't understand why I'm using them virtually
today. ;-)
