I also found the need to do this about 8 years ago when nothing else was available but have not needed to revisit since.
I'm inclined to agree with you so I'd be interested to see your solution.
I remember investigating that COBOL had some simple xml features not in RPG. I don't recall if there was one for update though.

I found a Java example and it took about 30 minutes to put together a general Java program to accomplish this.

I wrapped it with a CL program and Viola it's done.

Hate to say it but for complex things like XML, Java is much more efficient.

Hi Guys,

I didn't seem to be able to find anything on this topic.

I have an XML file where I want to simply update a field value or values in an XML file.

All the examples I have seen and used so far in RPG seem to be read-only.

I want to read an existing XML and update it.

Any thoughts for best way to do this in RPG ?

Note: I can write a Java wrapper if absolutely necessary, but would like this to be RPG based if possible.
