Let's not get hung up on semantics. At least, not yet. For all practical purposes, it's using a "d" spec with the extname() keyword to pull in the file layout from an external definition. Who cares if you don't code an "e" on the "f" spec?
As far as I am concerned, this "technique" is equivalent to telling
someone to "Close your eyes and step on the gas!" while driving a
car... :-o
How is this technique different from using sql select into :data-structure ... where the data-structure may point to an externally defined data structure?
