I agree about the proper writing of applications, even on legacy systems
(S/3-S/36), We didn't *have* to worry about decimal data errors, and I
still deal with one that was written by some s.o.b. who couldn't think -
blanks in numeric fields, etc. I worked on those legacy systems from
1973-1993. Never did I or anyone with whom I worked say, "Well, heck, it's
really zero but blanks are good enough." The @#$% field had zeros!!!
