If you're using MVC, you can test the Controller, pretty easily in batch...
At that point, the View should be a pretty stock shell...
However, at least with RPG, you often have the VC as a single entity...
I know we've used QTP to test interactive programs...
I've also heard of good results using Worksoft's Certify...
Saw a demo of ARCAD's Verifier that looked interesting...
Lastly, there are at least a few Open Source UI testing tools...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_GUI_testing_tools
Some of which work on desktop applications, I'd think a 5250 emulation
app would count. Most I think are designed for browser
applications...but you might be able to get those to work via IBM i
Access for the Web, which is basically 5250 in a browser.

Well, with a non-interactive program or a procedure, we create a testother
library, and a program that runs the program to be tested and stores
all the results which it compares with the results of the previous
test. In theory, easy for the next programmer who modifies the
program. Not possible with an interactive program.

I test interactive green-screen programs in much the same way as any
emptyprogram... ;-)
One thing I always check for in a subfile program is if it handles an
Cansubfile correctly, i.e., no records were loaded into the subfile.
An appropriate response to this question could fill a good-sized book.
applications?you be a bit more specific?
