But for the case where the empty string is just a regular, valid,
everyday string that HAPPENS to have a length of zero, then it is
absolutely and utterly reasonable to allow it to be compared to any other
valid string. And it would be ludicrous and illogical not to.
You can compare them, The system just needs to understand what is > or <.
He was testing > ' ', But if the first character is < ' ' on that system,
it doesn't pas the test. There are hex values on the system that are
considered < ' '. It's the way system sort that can get you. Remember in a
file you can't test a field for null directly you have to look at the
fields null indicator. The system allowed the test, it was the results
that were unexpected based on the poster's beliefs on how it should work.
