Is it me or are more and more companies leaving the IBM i / Power platform? The company I work for decided last year to move away from our IBM i to the world of Windows and canned packages. It's been over a year now, and they have yet to buy their first package nor have they even decided on one yet. I think they're finding it more difficult than they thought to get rid of our IBM i. As it is now we're looking at least another year maybe even longer on our IBM i before they totally get rid of the system. It probably doesn't help that they keep hiring Bozo consultants (no disrespect to Bozo the clown) who have no clue about the IBM i and what it would take to migrate away from the system to a Windows / Intel based system.

I would love to see the cost justification for this. When you say intel is it IBM intel blades and what OS? Still going to run DB2 and Websphere on Intel or are you moving that also?

There won't be one. Or at least not an honest one in my experience. The calculations will be based on a number of servers that in practice will need to at least be doubled to handle the real workload. And then there are the additional admin and network and DBA staff that will be needed but are always mysteriously omitted from the initial cost proposals ... Admittedly the staff omissions are sometimes based simply on ignorance i.e. they can't believe that the current system doesn't need the same kind of staffing and the companies management are too starry eyed to notice!
