Hi,

It's not only you... the fact is indeed that more and more companies are leaving the IBM i platform for various reasons (and many times not the correct ones). The biggest problem I see the last years is that even the software providers are moving away from it (which is dangerous), just because its easier to sell Wintel solutions then IBM i ones.

The fact that they end up with a much more complex environment, tons of hardware (ever seen a single Windows server company ?) and maintenance nightmares is only something they'll notice much later (but by then the IBM i is out...)

But personally I don't think this has much to do with RPG... the language improved quite a lot (however I would still like to see some very basic OO concepts in it) if at least you're willing to educate yourself on it, and really use it. If not it is a bit unfair to compare a rusty old RPG programmer with a kid coming from school doing some C#/Java tricks (and management often doesn't look further as the sexy GUI).

Kind regards,
Paul

Is it me or are more and more companies leaving the IBM i / Power platform?
The company I work for decided last year to move away from our IBM i to the
world of Windows and canned packages. It's been over a year now, and they
have yet to buy their first package nor have they even decided on one yet.
I think they're finding it more difficult than they thought to get rid of
our IBM i. As it is now we're looking at least another year maybe even
longer on our IBM i before they totally get rid of the system. It probably
doesn't help that they keep hiring Bozo consultants (no disrespect to Bozo
the clown) who have no clue about the IBM i and what it would take to
migrate away from the system to a Windows / Intel based system.
