Hi Christoff

I don't have any figures - I'd think hardware can be anywhere from 20 grand on up. Then there's software, including the OS, which goes 10 grand plus.

We are a development partner with IBM, so we can get very favorable lease agreements. But leasing is available to anyone who wants to acquire a box.

I agree that up-front cost is important and can be a deal-breaker. But leasing gives companies a good way to ease the pain of up-front costs.

So I think that if someone puts up-front costs as a reason not to go with the i, they are just not looking hard enough for financing alternatives that I think any financial officer would know to consider.

And congrats on the RPG cert - good on you, man!

Vern,

I am a Kid with an Accouting Degree, but I am getting my RPG Certificate

So my comment was based on accounting principles and my understanding of
TCO.

I have no clue how much a IBM i costs, or of the terms available.
Do you perhaps have a link to a i pricelist?

Christoff

Seems the up-front cost can be deferred with leases. No need to pay it
all on the first day, right?

Bill sometimes cashflow is a problem and a big up front cost is not
possible. Sometimes managements' are tied and they don't have a choice.
