Alan,

At the risk of repeating myself, you could do this:

D ObjectTypesStr S Like(ObjectTypes)
D Inz('*PGM +
D *SRVPGM +
D *CMD +
D *FILE ')
D ObjectTypesPtr S * Inz(%addr(ObjectTypesStr))
D ObjectTypes DS Based(ObjectTypesPtr)
D ObjectTypesLst 10A Dim(4)

You only need to define a single variable and its associated dimension, with
everything else defined relative to that.

Of course this method only works 'nicely' for shorter strings - for long
strings, I still use CTDATA.

I know that the following works. I just was thinking there is a another way
to do it. Jon references this way.

d ObjectTypes...
d ds
d 10a Inz('*PGM')
d 10a Inz('*SRVPGM')
d 10a Inz('*CMD')
d 10a Inz('*FILE')
d ObjectTypeList...
d 10a Overlay(ObjectTypes)
d Dim(4)

Kurt referenced doing it as

d ds
d ObjectTypes...
d 40a
d 10a Inz('*PGM')
d Overlay(ObjectTypes)
d 10a Inz('*SRVPGM')
d Overlay(ObjectTypes:*Next)
d 10a Inz('*CMD')
d Overlay(ObjectTypes:*Next)
d 10a Inz('*FILE')
d Overlay(ObjectTypes:*Next)
d ObjectTypeList...
d 10a Overlay(ObjectTypes)
d Dim(4)

But that requires defining a length for ObjectTypes and overlays for each
element.

Would be nice if IBM would just give use an INZARRAY keyword.

d ObjectTypeList
d s 10a Dim(4)
d
InzArray('*PGM':'*SRVPGM':'*CMD':'*FILE')
