Sheesh, I just re-read your post. My apologies.

Vern, I seem to remember coding Z-ADD on my System/3 coding forms.--
I think it was not part of RPG (1), but I am fairly certain it was part
of RPG/II from the beginning.

EVAL is a late addition to RPG - it was never a part of RPG III. It
added as an op-code that let you put free-form expressions in anused
expanded factor 2. EVALR came a little later, to provide what MOVE
to do, vs. MOVEL.is
So we used to have to use Z-ADD to set a variable to a value.

Since it was mentioned here and tickled a neuron...I might as wellask:
I've always wondered, what is the purpose of Z-ADD? Isn't it justthe
same to EVAL = 0, or EVAL = whatever you really want it to be? Or
numericthis just a legacy leftover that only still exists in order to messwith
my mind?pumping
Thanks! :)
Luke,
In case it hasn't been mentioned (or it has and I missed it), when
numeric values from one variable to another -of a larger length thanthe
originating variable- if it wasn't 'initialized' via z-add0 prior tothe
MOVE it resulted in an execution error with invalid data in a
field.--
Ah, the bad old days...--
