If you're at RDp 7.6, why not go to RDi 8.0? That was my assumption... and you know what that means. So that's why I thought the issue was RDp 7.6 cost. Anyway, OA's not really in my line of sight so I'll step away now. ;)

Yep Kurt - RDP 7.6 will cost something, at least for the typical shop.
Partners get a certain number of licenses if they subscribe to the Software Access Catalog - less than 1000 bucks annually. So for me, that cost is less of an issue - much less!

My reply was meant to address the need to go to RDP 8.0 - this is not the case. And as some of us have noted, you don't really need a newer editor at all - if you can get the editor to save the source with something it finds objectionable - SEU can - then you're good.

(I'm not advocating that anyone stay back for this reason!)

So the cost for Open Access: RPG Edition does not HAVE to include the cost of the development environment. It is only the cost of the runtime on the production machine, at least, and on the development machine, so that it can be tested there.

All in all, this is still a bit of a sticky wicket, I think.

Regards
Vern

I'm using RDP 7.6 for my editing - it handles the handler keyword just fine. I think, if you had to, you could save the source, even if it didn't recognize that keyword in earlier releases. If you edit in SEU at all, you'll always get the error, but you can ignore it when saving, then the compiler will be OK.

So it's not quite so bad as it might seem at first.

If it was PTF'd back to 5.4 (if technically feasible), I think you might see a much higher interest in it. Getting to 6.1 really is a hurdle for many of us.

It is not only the compiler/runtime that needs changing to use OA - your editor needs to recognise the handler keyword. You will need RDPi 8.0 for that I believe, which is another extra cost for those on 5.4 and using WDSCi/SEU.
