What if IBM would change the compiler so that
'=' meant assignment and '==' meant equate?

I don't recall if there is any precedent to changing elements
of the language in this way, but I'm sure there has been...

Bryce,

Um... assignment of variables?

Field1 = 'BRYCE';
if Field1 = 'BRYCE';

is much nicer (I think) than

Field1 = 'BRYCE';
if (Field1 == 'BRYCE');

I *constantly* get tripped up in JavaScript (I don't code much C) using '='
when I should be using '=='...

As far as assignment...I won't go there. They aren't really needed in RPG
since we don't have objects, unless you wanted to get rid of EVAL-Corr
maybe.
