I remember the hype quite well ... by the word "open" in the name.
I agree that "open" grabbed my attention. But whatever the name, the idea of enabling ISV's and ordinary individuals to extend the traditional I/O interface to communicate with contemporary remote devices is what appeals most to me. There has been so little detail coming out from IBM that discussion has trailed off. We wait.
I tend to not quibble over RPG language syntax because the most important thing to me is the runtime environment - the native virtual machine, not language syntax. If RPG were unavailable, I'd switch to the ILE C compiler.
