The trick is to have the f-spec specify EXTNAME(wSomeVariable)

then it's just:

wSomeVarible = 'FILENAME';
open myfile;

This functionality has been around for a long time.

Oh. (You mean EXTFILE.) I thought he was saying that you could specify the
INTERNAL filename as a variable, not the external. Yeah, I've been using
EXTFILE for a long time.
