Aaahh .... he says as the background process deep within his brain completes and corrects the frontal-lobes. Of course, you mean that a VARLEN field where the entire allocation is in the fixed-length record area will not incur the additional I/O to locate any overflow--'cause there is never any overflow. Duh! I should have realised that.

Now how can I recall my previous append?
